Clinical Study of McDonald operation in incompetent in ternalos of cervix


Abstract
30 McD:onald operations were performed on 22 patients with incompetent internal os of cervix at Chonbuk National University Hcspital frcm Jaruary 1, 1578 to June 30, 1985. 3 cases were not included in this analysis because of lack of follow up study.
The results are as follows,
I . The optimal time for operation was between the 12th and 1(ithweek of gestation and the success rate of the surgery was 92.6 %. Fetal salvage rate improved from 13.3 % to 92.6 %.
2 . The success rate was inversely propotional to the degree of cervical dilatation and effacement.
3 . The success rate was higher(95.2%) in the patients with Mersilene suture than those with silk suture(83.3%).
4. The success rate was not affected by anesthetic mathods.
5 . The prophylactic use. of tocolytics in addition to McDonald operation increased the success rate.
